View the Financial Report for 2023

In 2023, our mission to rescue children, mothers, grandmothers, and dogs evolved into a commitment to systemic change. We focused on creating an environment where children with the most severe diagnoses are never left alone, and where mothers no longer fear tomorrow. A place where care has meaning, structure, and a voice. Here is how we lived through this year:

Medical Breakthroughs: A New Standard of Care

Opening of the Medical Center and Palliative Care Unit

We launched a unique medical center in the City of Goodness, featuring palliative and rehabilitation units for children, round-the-clock medical supervision, and a specialized pediatric palliative ward for children with severe diagnoses.
For the first time in Chernivtsi, palliative care became accessible free of charge – delivered with warmth and dignity.

Our Licenses

Everything here is designed so that a child can feel life, even in its most difficult moments:

  • A glass terrace to see the sky and the rain;
  • A professional team of doctors working 24/7;
  • A therapeutic garden nearby – because nature heals.

This is the sixth building of the City of Goodness.
We continue to dream – a school, an art space, new facilities, and a rehabilitation pool – everything so that each child can live with dignity.

In just the first months of operation, the “House of Butterflies” became the largest children’s hospice in Ukraine.

Therapeutic Garden

Next to the hospice, we opened a landscape garden with therapeutic plants, quiet zones, and spaces for rest.

Here, accompanied by our pediatrician, anesthesiologist, and rehabilitation specialist, children in the most critical conditions can spend time in contact with nature, which greatly improves their well-being.

The garden is more than beauty – it is a space of healing, breathing, silence, and reflection.
For children in pain, it becomes a place of strength.

Medical Expert Commission (Ohmatdyt)

We build our system of care responsibly.
In 2023, we initiated the work of a medical expert commission with leading specialists from Ohmatdyt National Children’s Hospital.
We verify diagnoses and create individualized treatment and support pathways for orphaned, seriously ill, and impoverished children – those who were often denied a chance before.

Canistherapy Center and Expansion of the Shelter for Rescued Dogs

In 2023, we expanded our animal shelter for pets affected by the war – but we did it together with children.
When a child traumatized by war strokes a dog that has also known fear, both begin to heal.

Our children care for the animals – and many of them, for the first time, smile sincerely, learn to walk, speak, and read.

New Building for Children from Odesa

We built a fully equipped new building for children evacuated from Odesa.
The rooms are warm, the classrooms filled with learning, and the shared hall filled with laughter and a sense of safety.

In total, we sheltered 150 children without parental care.
Seventeen babies were born at the City of Goodness and remain here, surrounded by warmth and love.

We also started construction of an independent water supply system to ensure full autonomy of our facilities.

Forum Activities and Advocacy

We organized the “Bukovyna Without Violence” Forum (August 18, Putyla) – a discussion on how communities can prevent and respond to domestic violence.

We gathered everyone unwilling to stay silent – community leaders, social workers, police, educators, healthcare professionals, and activists.
The forum became a platform for honest dialogue – about children afraid to go home, women with nowhere to flee, and villages where it’s still shameful to say “I was beaten.”

Key discussion topics included:

  • Systemic community-level solutions to combat domestic violence;
  • Legal, psychological, and medical support for survivors;
  • The role of educators, local leaders, and influencers in building safe environments;
  • City of Goodness case studies – how a crisis center for mothers and children became a place where new lives begin.

We also founded the Department for the Protection of Women’s Rights, uniting professionals, civil society, and survivors to create a sustainable support system.
Since its establishment, the department has achieved over 300 successful cases of helping women across Ukraine.

Investments and Partnerships

We attracted ₴34,338,348 UAH in foreign aid – for the medical center, animal shelter, new buildings, and care programs.

We signed a Memorandum with the Chernivtsi City Council – the “No Child Alone” initiative became a new stage of cooperation between hospitals, local authorities, and the City of Goodness to support children.

New Traditions – Because Childhood Should Be Happy

Hat Day and the “Tails” Contest – small celebrations that help children stop fearing doctors.

Shopping days are not about buying things, but about feeling normal life again – choosing something new with mom, laughing, and remembering what it’s like to simply be a child.

Tomorrow

We’re not stopping.
Our plans include a school, an art center, and training programs for teenagers.
We want every child, even in difficult circumstances, to live a life filled with meaning, love, and freedom.

The City of Goodness is more than a shelter – it’s a mission.
A place where everyone is happy: children, mothers, grandmothers, and every rescued tail.
Change the world with us. Your support means life.
